Chelsea suffer transfer blow with centre-back target signing new deal

Chelsea target Lewis Dunk has signed a new five-year deal with Brighton & Hove Albion to end all talk of a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues had made inquires around the centre-back, however his future has now been secured for a long-term commitment on the South Coast.

The 28-year-old is the Seagulls' captain and has been a big performer for them in their ability to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

And while he had been linked with a £40million switch to west London, that is now not expected to happen.

The ultimate lowdown on Thiago Silva

The Blues are considering their centre-back options for next season, however, with the 2019/20 campaign having been disappointing in defence.

Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Thiago Silva, with the Brazilian to be a free transfer after PSG's Champions League final this weekend.

While the Blues are in negotiations over a potential move, the 35-year-old is still considering his next move.

However, Dunk won't be heading to Stamford Bridge with his new deal being confirmed by Brighton.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract,” Lewis told the club’s website.

“The aim now is to build on a record Premier League season and help the club continue its recent progress over the next five years.”
