Chelsea suffer Mason Mount and Reece James double blow as Thiago Silva injury timeline set

Chelsea have been dealt another injury blow ahead of their Stamford Bridge clash against Leeds United with Mason Mount ruled out of the match and Reece James facing a race to be fit. The news comes following Thiago Silva having been confirmed to have suffered knee ligament damage earlier in the week.

Graham Potter confirmed that Silva could be out for a period of around six weeks, while revealing that Mount was suffering from an injury with his abdomen, while James had felt some tightness in his hamstring. The latter could still feature but remains a doubt.

N'Golo Kante took part in his first full training session on Friday having been involved to varying degrees through the rest of the week. The Frenchman is yet to feature since Potter took charge of the club, and is unlikely to earn minutes against Leeds and has seen his recovery managed well over the last five months.

Edouard Mendy, who required surgery on his hand earlier this year, was also confirmed to be making good progress, alongside Cesar Azpilicueta.

Potter said in his press conference :“Thiago will be around that time, not sure exactly. [Edouard] Mendy is making progress. N’Golo [Kante] had his first full session today, but still needs time. Mason {Mount] has had a problem with a lower abdomen area and tomorrow is too soon for him.

"Reece [James] has a tightness in his hamstring; we are assessing him but he’s doubtful for tomorrow as well. Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta] has made progress but is not through protocols after a head injury like that.”
