Chelsea suffer another injury blow during Newcastle match ahead of Ajax Champions League clash

Chelsea have suffered another injury blow as Ross Barkley had to hobble off in the first half of their match with Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old started the game at Stamford Bridge, however just three minutes in was in trouble after taking what looked like a knock to the ankle.

The England international continued through the half, however it was just before half-time that enough was enough and Barkley had to be withdrawn by Frank Lampard for Mateo Kovacic.

With such a busy schedule it is just another player to add to the list of injury issues that Lampard has right now.

N'Golo Kante, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger were all unable to feature in the game as they recover from knocks.

Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still looking to recover from his long-term lay-off with his ruptured Achilles' tendon.

The Blues went into the break with a 0-0 stalemate, with Willian having the best chances and Mason Mount having a great shot saved by Martin Dubravka.

However, they were unable to break the deadlock over the first 45 minutes.
