Chelsea suffer £14.8million loss in squad transfer values as Kante takes hit but Werner gains

Chelsea's squad value has dropped since their summer of spending but they have still managed to climb the into the world's top five.

The Blues dominated the summer transfer window headlines as they bolstered their squad with more than £200million worth of new signings, including the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.

The value of the Chelsea squad shot up, but that hasn't exactly shown on the pitch with Frank Lampard struggling to arrest a torrid run of form of late.

Lampard's men started the season brightly, but they are now ninth having lost four of their last six outings.

With that in mind, it's no real surprise that the value of the Chelsea squad has dropped a little over the last few months, by the best part of £15million.

After the end of the summer window, the Blues squad was valued at £760.41million, according to Transfermarkt, the seventh most expensive in the world, and it has now dropped to £745.62million.

Some of the biggest losers in value include N'Golo Kante, whose value dropped by more than £9million, while Kepa Arrizabalaga and Fikayo Tomori have lost £2.7million and Antonio Rudiger has lost £3.5million in transfer value.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner, who has been much-criticised for some of his performances, has actually enjoyed a gain of more than £5.4million, now worth more than £63million.

Though, surprisingly, Chelsea have climbed the squad value table by two places in that time with Barcelona dropping from third to sixth and Real Madrid falling from sixth to seventh.

Chelsea are now fifth and more than £15million ahead of Barcelona, who like Chelsea, have not enjoyed a good season so far, currently seven points behind Atletico Madrid, who have two games in hand.

Liverpool and Manchester City continue to make up the top two with squads worth £991.6million and £955.52 million respectively.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain make up the top five with the nearest English team below Chelsea coming in at 10th, with Tottenham's squad valued at £669.39million.
