Chelsea 'submit bid' for Tottenham's Alessandro Bastoni alternative amid Jules Kounde concerns

Chelsea have reportedly entered the race and are in the process of submitting an opening 'bid' for Torino defender Gleison Bremer amid the Jules Kounde transfer impasse.

Whilst all talk Chelsea-wise at the moment is centred on Romelu Lukaku's future amid Inter Milan loan progress, the defensive areas have become an area of real concern for Todd Boehly and his new board. Not only because the duo of Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen have departed for new La Liga challenges but Spanish duo Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta could follow suit in the forthcoming weeks, especially as Barcelona now have the money after the economic levers vote this week.

As a consequence of this, the Blues need to get some form of contingency plan in place and despite Sevilla defender Kounde, who had successful surgery after France's Nations League defeat to Croatia, remaining the prime target, it is expected that at least two centre-halves are being targeted by the new American owner. The likes of Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar are two options being considered in a potential Lukaku deal but the expectation is that no players will be involved in this certain transfer with the Serie A runners-up for 2021/22 not wanting to lose any of their key players.

Therefore, this has caused the Blues to turn elsewhere and another Serie A defender has now firmly entered the equation. Bremer, 25, has already been linked to Antonio Conte's Spurs as the Lilywhites look set to miss out on Bastoni, as Villarreal's Pau Torres seems to be more viable for Fabio Paratici at this current moment.

Torino's current No. 3 seems more likely to end up in west London compared to north of the English capital and Gianluca Di Marzio has echoed this statement with his latest update on the situation at hand. He reported late on Friday night that the current World Champions have submitted an 'important proposal' for a player who has the potential to be Thiago Silva's long-term heir in SW6.

The player in question, who has a good playing record when coming up against Dusan Vlahovic, has two years remaining on his current deal and is valued at around £32million by Transfermarkt. A bid of around £35m should be enough to get the job done for Chelsea in this scenario.

Being 25 years old and having racked up more than 2,000 minutes in the Italian top-flight last season signifies Bremer's importance to Torino, so although a risk, it could be one that pays its dividends in the long-term for Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea fans- if you could only sign one of Gleison Bremer or Jules Koundé this summer, who would you choose and why? Leave your thoughts down below in the comments section!
