Chelsea striker 'turns down' Celtic in favour of EFL loan

David Datro Fofana has reportedly rejected the opportunity to move to Celtic.

Reports emerged earlier on transfer deadline day that the Scottish Premiership champions has registered an interest in signing the 22-year-old on loan from Chelsea.

However, Sky Sports claim the frontman has instead agreed to move on loan to Charlton Athletic.

The Championship club have won the race to sign the frontman, who previously spent time at Burnley.

It's said that Charlton submitted a deal sheet for the player before the 7pm deadline for English clubs, and they hope to complete the move imminently.

The Ivory Coast international, who has three caps, has a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2029.

He scored 24 goals in 65 appearances for Molde between 2021 and 2023, which attracted the attention of Chelsea, who signed him for €12m [Transfermarkt].

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Turkish side Goztepe.

The interest in Datro Fofana comes as Celtic's move for Kasper Dolberg collapses.

Discussions are reportedly advanced for Ajax to acquire him on loan with a mandatory €10m buy option.

Celtic have until 11pm tonight to make any new signings.
