Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud lands role in new Spider-Man film

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has landed a role in the new animated Spider-Man film as the voice of the Green Goblin.

Known as 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' in English-language regions, Giroud will feature on the French-language 'Spider-Man: New Generation' which is released on December 12.

Giroud is joined by Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, who will voice the character or Scorpion despite Giroud's previously acrobatic antics in front of goal.

The film follows Miles Morales as Spider-Man teaming up with other Spider-Men from parallel dimensions.

The World Cup winners follow in the footsteps of France and Chelsea defender Franck Leboeuf, who was also not content with winning football's great prize in 1998.

Leboeuf's most notable role came in the Oscar-winning drama 'The Theory of Everything' about Stephen Hawking's life, in which he played the role of 'Swiss Doctor'.

Another Frenchman, Eric Cantona, also swapped the field for an Oscar-winning film, most notably playing the role of Monsieur de Foix in 1998's 'Elizabeth'.

He was also the subject of director Ken Loach's comedy 'Looking for Eric' in 2009.
