Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud filmed arriving in Milan to complete AC Milan transfer move

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has arrived in Milan ahead of his proposed move to AC Milan this summer.

Giroud, 34, was spotted in Italy ahead of his medical checks which are expected to be taking place at the Milanello training ground on Friday.

The 34-year-old will sign a two-year contract with Stefano Poli's side, in a deal which will cost the Rossoneri a total of €2 million (£1.7 million). €1 million (£850,000) directly to Chelsea, plus another €1m (£850,000) in add-ons.

It is being reported by Football Italia that there should be an option of a third year, should AC Milan want to keep the veteran striker beyond the two years.

The Frenchman signed for the Blues in the 2018 January transfer window from London rivals Arsenal, in a deal totalling around £15.30m.

Since signing for the Stamford Bridge club, Giroud has played under multiple managers including Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri, Frank Lampard and most recently Thomas Tuchel, scoring 39 in all competitions in a Chelsea jersey.

He has also won three trophies since signing for the club, with the UEFA Champions League being the standout out of all the titles in his personal trophy cabinet.

Most Chelsea fans will remember the 34-year-old best for his contributions to the 18/19 UEFA Europa League success under Sarri, where Giroud scored the opening goal in the 4-1 thrashing of his old club Arsenal in the final.

After the game, he was famously quoted on Instagram saying "Thank you Arsenal".

A comment which helped the veteran striker warm to the west London fan base.

It’s reported he is not expected to join up with Milan for pre-season training until July 26, as he featured at UEFA EURO 2020 for France.

Manager's have always said good things about the attitude and ability of Giroud, even at the age of 34.

After scoring an overhead kick in Chelsea's 1-0 first leg win in the round of 16 against Atletico Madrid in last season's Champions League, Tuchel praised the mentality of the Frenchman.

Speaking in February, the Blues boss said: “If you see him on a daily basis, you cannot be surprised. He is totally fit, his body is in shape and his physicality is on top level.

“Mentally I have really the feeling he enjoys every day being a professional soccer player on this level and this is the level he needs to be.

“He trains like a 20-year-old, like a 24-year-old. He is a guy who has a good mixture of serious and joy in training. He is always positive and it is a big factor for the group.

“He starts, when he comes from the bench, he has all these qualities and it is good like this.”
