Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi to stay and fight for place in Frank Lampard's team

Michy Batshuayi wants to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea but will reassess the situation in January.

The Belgium striker scored twice in the development squad’s 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge last night.

It is the only football Batshuayi has played this season having been ignored by coach Frank Lampard, who was watching from the stands on Monday evening, in the three senior games played so far.

While the transfer window closed in England on August 8, it remains open in other countries and they can still sign players from Premier League clubs.

Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea from Marseille for £33.2m in 2016, wants to play regularly this term to ensure he makes Belgium’s squad for the European Championships next summer.

The 25-year-old has already had loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace since moving to Stamford Bridge in order to get first team football.

He is currently behind Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order at Chelsea, but is not going to push for a move elsewhere yet.

With Chelsea’s campaign in the Champions League and League Cup beginning next month, Batshuayi hopes he will get more of a chance to impress as Lampard will have to rotate his squad.

But should he remain on the sidelines consistently over the next four months, Batshuayi is expected to consider his future.

Meanwhile, defender Antonio Rudiger is in line to return to the squad to face Norwich on Saturday after also playing the full match against Liverpool. The German defender has been ruled out since suffering a knee injury in April.
