Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi responds as Crystal Palace transfer edges closer

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has confirmed that a loan move to Crystal Palace is "on the right track".

The 26-year-old joined Chelsea four years ago, and has since been on three short-term loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

Following a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund in the first half of 2018, the striker was lined up with a season-long move to Valencia.

However, his time in La Liga did not work out well, and Palace swooped to sign him for the second half of the 2018/19 season.

The Belgium international was a popular figure among fans during his time at Selhurst Park, but after returning to Chelsea he has featured irregularly.

Following Frank Lampard's arrival as manager, the forward has dropped beneath Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham and now Timo Werner in the pecking order.

News broke on Tuesday that Palace had decided to prioritise a move for Batshuayi over young midfielder Conor Gallagher.

And following Belgium's 5-1 win against Iceland, in which the striker scored twice, Batshuayi confirmed that talks were ongoing about a return to Selhurst Park.

"If I am going to sign a new deal at Chelsea and be loaned to Crystal Palace next? You are on the right track when you say that. It’s something like that," Batshuayi told broadcaster RTBF.

Batshuayi's current deal at Chelsea is set to expire next summer, and it is expected that his contract will be extended by a further 12 months.

The striker earns over £100,000-per-week, and Palace are expected to pay a portion of those wages, rather than the full amount.

A deal should be wrapped up for Batshuayi before the weekend, but it would seem unlikely that the striker would be in the squad for the opening game against Southampton on Saturday.
