Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi involved in strange mix-up on international duty with Belgium

Michy Batshuayi got 13 minutes of action as Belgium beat Russia 4-1 in Euro 2020 qualifying on Saturday.

But you could have been forgiven for thinking the Chelsea striker played for 58 minutes.

That is because it looked as if Batshuayi was on the pitch - if you were only looking at the backs of the players' shirts, anyway.

Batshuayi was handed the number 23 shirt for the game with Russia - a substitute's number.

But when the teams appeared for the start of the match, there was a number 23 out on the pitch.

Sporting the number 23 shirt, with Batshuayi's name on the back, was Belgium centre-back Dedryck Boyata for some strange reason.

Boyata had clearly, inadvertently, picked up the wrong shirt as he headed out for the match, because he was wearing the correct number four shorts.

The Hertha Berlin defender played the entirety of the first half with the wrong shirt on, eventually getting into the correct number four shirt for the second half.

And the real number 23 arrived in the 77th minute, with the Chelsea frontman getting some action from the bench in the victory that secured top spot in Group I with one game to spare.
