Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata suffers knee injury in Vidi Europa League game

Alvaro Morata is a doubt for Chelsea's trip to Brighton after limping off during their Europa League game against MOL Vidi.

The Spaniard landed awkwardly on his left leg just moments after he saw his shot saved by Vidi goalkeeper Kovacsik.

The 26-year-old immediately collapsed to the floor holding his knee and after being carried off by the medical staff, limped down the tunnel before he was replaced by Olivier Giroud just before half time.

Morata, who has scored five goals in the Premier League this season, was expected to be on the bench for the trip to Brighton anyway after starting the game in Budapest.

But his latest injury may leave coach Maurizio Sarri short of options with Giroud their only striker for Sunday's game.

The Italian coach used Eden Hazard as a false nine in the 2-0 win over Manchester City and could be forced into deploying that tactic again in order to protect Giroud, should Morata's injury turn out to be as serious as first feared.
