Chelsea star Christian Pulisic pulls out of USA squad to continue injury rehab

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has pulled out of the USA squad and to return to the club for further treatment on a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old has struggled with the injury ever since limping off in last season’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal and has made just three Premier League appearances so far this season.

He has not been seen in action since he was forced out of Blues XI for the clash with Burnley last month after aggravating the problem in the warm-up but was called up to the US squad for friendlies against Wales and Austria.

However, after training with the squad this week, US coach Gregg Berhalter confirmed that he was not fit enough to feature in matches and would instead return to Cobham.

“Christian is a big part of our group,” Berhalter said. “He has been working through an injury, but it really says a lot that he wanted to come into camp, be around the guys and continue to be a leader with this team.”

Pulisic will now have more than a week on the training ground to prove his fitness before Frank Lampard’s side go to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle in a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, November 21.
