Chelsea stars fire warning to Liverpool as Maurizio Sarri's men plan to crash party again

Cesar Azpilicueta says Chelsea are planning to take on the role of spoilers again when they visit Anfield on Sunday.

Chelsea faced Liverpool in May 2014 with the Reds on the verge of an unlikely Premier League title win, Brendan Rodgers' side needed just seven points from their remaining three games to beat Manchester City to top spot.

But Jose Mourinho's side set up to stop Rodgers' free-scoring Reds, and eventually won the game when Demba Ba seized on Steven Gerrard's slip to score, before Willian wrapped things up late on.

Azpilicueta admits Chelsea look back fondly on the day they 'crashed Liverpool's party' - and he wants to repeat the feat on Sunday when Maurizio Sarri's side meet Jurgen Klopp's league leaders.

He said: “When we went there they had the party nearly ready because they were smashing every team at Anfield.

“We arrived with a very clear idea and we played the game we had to. To beat that team was a very important win for the club. Hopefully we can replicate it on Sunday.

“But It is not about frustrating Liverpool, it is about playing our game. We know they are fighting for the title, but for us every point is vital to finish in the top four. We need to keep the solidity we have shown in the last few games, and defend well. We have proved ourselves already at Anfield this season.

“Whatever you did in the past is nice - but we have to prove ourselves again on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Willian says Chelsea are 'excited' to play at Anfield and relaxed heading into Sunday's game.

“Sunday will be a very, very big game, and a very exciting game,” he said.

“We are ready to play this game and we are excited.

“We have targets in the Premier League and in the Europa League. Our target in the Premier League is to stay in the top four, so we have to go there on Sunday and try to win the game.”

Liverpool have not lost at Anfield in the Premier League for 37 matches, a run which stretches back to April 2017.

Liverpool slam Chelsea fans' racist abuse of Mohamed Salah as 'dangerous and disturbing'

And Willian believes this is potentially the toughest fixture of the season so far.

“Yes, of course. We know that. We know how they play, we know how dangerous they are. They have great players. They are in a good moment, so we have to be ready,” he added.
