Chelsea stars and John Terry deliver verdict on Instagram after Timo Werner transfer confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed the capture of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £47.5million.

Blues boss Frank Lampard was keen to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window to bolster his attack, and Werner fits the bill, after establishing himself as one of the most impressive forwards in Europe in recent seasons.

The Germany international striker will join up with his new teammates next month once the current Bundesliga campaign finishes.

In a statement on the official Chelsea website, Werner said: "I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club.

"I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.

"I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us."

After the deal was confirmed, Chelsea stars past and present took to social media to show their approval at the signing.

The Blues uploaded a picture of Werner on their Instagram page, with defenders Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger both 'liking' the post.

Chelsea also posted a video recorded by Werner, in which the forward expresses his excitement at the impending move, and former midfielder John Obi Mikel and Blues legend John Terry both liked the clip.

Director Marina Granovskaia also revealed her delight at the Werner deal, releasing a statement on the club website.

"We are very excited that Timo Werner has chosen to join Chelsea," she said.

"He is a player who was coveted all over Europe and it is no surprise, he has that rare mix of being young and exciting and yet established and proven.

"We can’t wait to have Timo on board, but until then we wish him and RB Leipzig all the best for the rest of this season."
