Chelsea and Scotland star Erin Cuthbert is returning to her roots to officially open a new sports facility in Irvine.
The former Greenwood Academy pupil will do the honours at the Circuit in Quarry Road on Monday, October 7 at 2pm.
The new facility boasts a full-size 3G outdoor pitch for football, nine-a-side 3G indoor pitch to allow all-weather training and a 750m closed cycle loop.
The £5.4m centre also features an active travel hub and a new incubation facility for small local businesses known as the Circuit Enterprise Hub.
It offers subsidised office accommodation for up to 12 businesses with access to support through the council’s business team.
North Ayrshire Council's cabinet member for economy Alex Gallagher said: “We’re delighted that The Circuit sports hub is open.
“It’s a significant milestone for the local community and demonstrates the council’s priority to regenerate the area, adding to recent investments such as the Portal and the ongoing regeneration of Irvine High Street and Bank Street.
“The development of the facility took a number of years as it required the purchase of land and bids for funding from a number of sources.
“The development makes use of an area that was underused and will give people another reason to come into the town centre.
“We also want to support the creation and development of more small businesses and the new enterprise hub at The Circuit is a valuable addition to the extensive suite of business support we currently provide.”
