Chelsea star Timo Werner ruled out of Germany friendly with 'slight cold'

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has been ruled out of Germany’s friendly against Turkey on Wednesday because of a cold.

Werner has not yet joined up with Joachim Low’s squad for the international break but is expected to do so in time for the competitive Nations League games against Ukraine and Switzerland, the first of which is on Saturday.

Low’s assistant manager Marcus Sorg told the press on Tuesday: "Timo Werner has a slight cold and won't join up with the team today."

Werner arrived at Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig this summer and is an established part of Low’s side. He has scored 12 goals in 31 international caps, the most recent of which came in the 1-1 Nations League draw at home to Spain in September.

He is joined in the Germany squad by Blues teammates Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger. The latter was also delayed in joining up with his teammates amid speculation over his future on transfer deadline day, but no move materialised despite reported interest from Tottenham, PSG and AC Milan.
