Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku set to undergo scan on injury ahead of Aston Villa clash

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been on fire in recent times.

The former Manchester United frontman bagged a whopping 64 goals in 95 games for Inter Milan before completing his £97.5million return to Stamford Bridge last month.

After netting against Arsenal on his second Blues' debut, Lukaku has continued his fine form for Belgium during the international break, scoring twice against Estonia last week before netting once against the Czech Republic on Sunday.

The 28-year-old is now suspended for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus and will return to west London in the coming days as he prepares for this weekend's Premier League, with Chelsea hosting Dean Smith's Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

However, his preparation has hit a snag as he admitted to suffering a thigh injury during the Red Devil's 3-0 win over the Czech Republic.

"I’ll have a scan of my thigh first," Lukaku told HLN on Sunday afternoon.

"I have been struggling with a minor issue for a while. And then I will return to Chelsea."

It will be a huge blow for Thomas Tuchel if he is to lose Lukaku for the game against Villa, considering midfield stalwart N'golo Kante is already a doubt.

The former Leicester City ace suffered an ankle problem during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool nine days ago, meaning that deadline day signing Saul Niguez may end up making his Chelsea debut come Saturday.

The Spanish playmaker was signed from Atletico Madrid last Tuesday, joining the Blues on a season-long loan, which football.london understands includes an option that allows Chelsea the chance to buy the 26-year-old for £30million at the end of the season.
