Romelu Lukaku has returned to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus.
The Belgian frontman joined Chelsea for a club-record £98million fee last week after enjoying an extremely productive spell with Inter Milan, bagging a whopping 64 goals across the last two seasons with the Nerazzurri.
Lukaku will be hoping he can replicate this kind of goalscoring form during his second spell with the Blues, having struggled for game time during his three-year stint at the west London club between 2011 and 2014.
However, the 28-year-old does still boast a solid return in the English top-flight, having netted 113 times across 252 games across spells with Chelsea, West Brom, Everton and Manchester United.
Despite his goalscoring exploits being more prolific in Italy, Lukaku has claimed that Serie A is superior to the Premier League in a tactical sense, with the latter a more physical and intense competition.
"Italy is tactically and technically a better league but here in England, it’s all about the intensity", Lukaku told Chelsea's website.
"That’s what makes the difference but it’s no problem for me because I’ve been here for eight years and I know what it’s all about.
"It’s not like I’m a new player coming in and not quite knowing what to expect. I know the league, I’ve scored a fair amount of goals here but the past is the past and now we have to look forward.
"I’m a new version of that player from before. I’ve evolved and the team that I’m joining is a very strong team so now we just have to prove it on the pitch by challenging for the Premier League."
And former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has previously echoed Lukaku's comments on the differences in the two leagues, arguing that the tactical approach in Serie A makes it slower-paced.
“The Premier League is very competitive. There are many things we can say on why their clubs are superior to those in Serie A", Ancelotti told Il Corriere dello Sport.
There are too many tactics in Italy, which lead to less intensity. The Premier League has the best players and the best coaches.”
