Chelsea star Mason Mount leads Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden in vital Premier League stat

Mason Mount is quickly becoming an irreplaceable part of the Chelsea starting XI.

The young England international was a favourite under Frank Lampard and despite being left of Thomas Tuchel's first starting XI, it is clear Mount has impressed his new boss in his two starts since.

And it's not particularly difficult to see why with Mount showing just how vital his creativity is in behind the Chelsea front men, playing in an advanced midfield role.

Mount is still only 22 years of age, but he has quickly established himself as one of the best young Premier League talents, particularly when it comes to attacking players.

That's proven in the statistic that highlights the number of key passes made by players under the age of 23 in the Premier League this season, as found by Playmaker Stats.

Mount leads that list, currently head and shoulders above Wolves' Pedro Neto, his nearest challenger having racked up 55 key passes compared to Neto's 43.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold is next on the list with 31, ahead of Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze (24), Arsenal's Bukayo Saka (23), Manchester City starlet Phil Foden (22) and his own teammate Reece James, who also has 22.

Mount is also third in the Premier League for key passes across all players, with only Jack Grealish (71) and Bruno Fernandes (65) managing more.

With those stats, it's easy to see why Tuchel is being quickly won over by Mount.

Ahead of Chelsea's win over Tottenham on Thursday, Tuchel said of Mount: "What I’ve seen from the outside and what I’ve seen on the inside, he is 100% all the time.

"He cares a lot about Chelsea, he cares a lot about his teammates, he is leaving his heart on the pitch.

“If you train with Mason, if you play with Mason, you can be sure he gives 100% every minute and this is the best level to grow. It's the best situation to start and the best situation to become a top, top player.

“He has everything needed to reach higher and higher levels. I don't know where his limits are but right now we will push him and support him.

“The most important thing is that it comes from inside of him. What makes me very happy is he is a nice guy, a totally open guy. He has a positive aura and energy in the dressing room and it's a real pleasure to work with the whole team and Mason."
