Chelsea star Marc Guehi secures Swansea City loan return

Marc Guehi has returned to Swansea City on loan for the duration of the upcoming campaign.

The defender joined the Swans in January on an initial deal which would see him spend the latter half of the 2019/20 season at the Liberty Stadium, with the option for his stay to be extended by a further 12 months.

Following Swansea's play-off semi-final loss to Brentford, Guehi returned to parent club Chelsea.

WalesOnline learned earlier this week that the versatile centre-back was set to secure a return to south Wales.

It has now been confirmed that the 20-year-old will spend the entire 2020/21 season with the Swans.

“I’m very happy. I never really left!” he told the club's website. “I really enjoyed my time at Swansea last season, so it made sense to extend my time here.

“It was a really good opportunity for me last season. I played games and the support from the fans was amazing.

“I was part of a group of really good footballers and characters who helped me a lot.

“I want to get an opportunity to play and keep learning and progressing. The most important thing, though, is that we are winning.”

Steve Cooper worked with Guehi as England won the Under-17s World Cup in India three years ago.

The Chelsea loanee made 14 appearances for Swansea last term, with Guehi's post-lockdown performances earning him rave reviews from Cooper and the Jack Army.
