Chelsea star Jorginho reacts amid talk of becoming the Premier League's 'next Cristiano Ronaldo'

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has refused to be drawn into discussing his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or award.

After playing a key role in helping the Blues win the Champions League last season, the 29-year-old followed that up by adding a Euro 2020 winner's medal to his collection following Italy's penalty shootout success over England on Sunday night.

As a result, Jorginho - along with Chelsea teammate Emerson Palmieri - is a double European Champion.

Hence talk of the midfielder being in the race to claim the Ballon d'Or - the annual football award that recognises the best player in the world after an impressive 2021.

Not since 2008 has a Premier League player won the award and that was Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, whilst Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk was runner-up to Lionel Messi in 2019.

So could Jorginho end that barren run?

Well, when asked about potentially emulating the Portugal superstar and effectively becoming the Premier League's 'next Cristiano Ronaldo' the midfielder didn't want to say too much.

"Nahh! Next question!" he replied when speaking to beIN Sports after the Euro 2020 final. "I don't want to talk about that, I don't think about that.

"I just want to enjoy the moment with these guys."

If Jorginho was to win the Ballon d'Or, a lot of credit must go to Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.

The 29-year-old has established himself as a key player since the German was appointed back in January, performing above expectations in a midfield two often alongside N'Golo Kante.

But judging by his comments, it seems that Jorginho isn't too concerned about individual awards and would rather enjoy success as part of a team.
