Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech responds to Tottenham 'revenge' claims

Hakim Ziyech has addressed the question of revenge ahead when it comes to Tottenham having signed for Chelsea in the summer.

Ziyech may have a score to settle with Spurs following that dramatic Champions League night at the Amsterdam Arena in 2019.

Tottenham, of course, completed an astonishing comeback to knock out Ziyech and his Ajax teammates and reach the final of the competition.

And this season, Ziyech will go up against Spurs for the first time since that night having signed for Chelsea this summer on a deal worth around £36million, missing this season's Carabao Cup clash between the teams through injury.

But when Chelsea and Spurs do go head-to-head at the end of November, it won't be so much about revenge for Ziyech, just claiming all three points, despite plenty of badgering from his old friends in the Netherlands.

Mourinho post-match press conference after Spurs beat LASK

Speaking to The Guardian, he said: “Even in Holland, they say: ‘Now you can take good revenge on Tottenham,’ but as a player you always want to win, even if it is Tottenham or whoever.

”Speaking about that now-famous Champions League night, Ziyech added: "For a child’s dream you just stole it down to the ground.

"It is hard, it is painful. It’s crazy what happened at that time, it’s hard to accept.

"You don’t always get what you deserve; you have to take that as a lesson and I did. Now I know always that the game is not over until the referee whistles.”

Ziyech, who spent four years at Ajax, has only featured twice for Chelsea so far having suffered with a knee injury heading into his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The Morocco-born Dutchman made his debut in the Blues' Premier League draw with Southampton last weekend before featuring in their goalless draw with Europa League champions Sevilla in the Champions League during the week.
