Chelsea star explains the key reason for his improved performances under Frank Lampard

Mateo Kovacic believes that finally being settled at Stamford Bridge has been a driving force in his improved performances this season.

The Croatian struggled last season while on loan from Real Madrid, being used on the left of three in midfield by Maurizio Sarri.

Despite being in the middle of a transfer ban, the Blues were still able to take up the option to sign Kovacic from the Spanish club on a permanent basis.

The club decided to bring in the 25-year-old and has been impressive throughout much of the campaign for the Blues.

Kovacic ended his long-running goal drought with finishes against Valencia in the Champions League and another in a 3-1 defeat to Everton in the Premier League.

And the Croatian believes that being settled in London after securing a permanent move in the summer has been the reason for his positive change in form.

"Maybe it is because I have signed here [permanently] so now I am more calm," Kovacic told Chelsea.

"Because last year was a loan, it was maybe more difficult to prove myself, but this year I feel a lot better because I had one year’s adaptation and now I am feeling good.

"The guys are amazing, the staff are really good and my family is happy.

"It is really important to me that my family feels good and for now everything is amazing so we are enjoying everything about London and Chelsea, it’s really nice."
