Chelsea star Christian Pulisic repays Jurgen Klopp's faith to help Liverpool win title

Christian Pulisic will be a popular man on Merseyside this morning.

The Chelsea winger scored last night to set the Blues on their way to a crucial 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, ensuring that Liverpool secured their first-ever Premier League title at last.

The USA international put the Blues a goal to the good in the first half, netting a splendid solo goal, before Willian netted the winner from the penalty spot 12 minutes from time, after City had drawn level 10 minutes after the interval thanks to a stunning free-kick from Kevin De Bruyne.

Whilst the victory did wonders for the Blues' own top-four ambitions, it also finally secured Liverpool their first league title in 30 years, ensuring that Jurgen Klopp became the man to end three decades of pain for the red side of Merseyside.

And it proved to be quite fitting that Pulisic, a player who started to make a name for himself under Klopp's stewardship during their time together at Dortmund, was the man that played a key role in deciding that Liverpool were to finally lay their hands on the title on Thursday evening.

“The craziest thing is people don’t realise I started out in the youth teams over there," Pulisic told the 13&ME podcast back in 2018.

"I was just working hard for that one opportunity I could get.

“I was going to German school over there and I will never forget that one day I was in class and I looked at my phone and it was a text from my youth coach saying you are training with the first team tonight.

"The rest of the day I wasn’t even paying attention. I couldn’t think of anything else.

“I’m getting ready, going to training and it’s just unreal.

"I was 16 or 17 and I’m going in the warm-up and there’s huge names at the time. There’s [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, Marco Reus, Matts Hummels, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan. All these guys and they were just in the Champions League final the year before.

“It’s like, I’m going in and I’m just this 16-year-old kid. I was thinking, 'just do my best'.

“I was just so excited and I’m just thankful to Jurgen Klopp that he gave me that opportunity. I’ll take that with me forever and I’m really grateful.”

Pulisic's strike against City last night marked his second goal in as many games since the Premier League's return, after he also scored against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The winger, who turns 22 in September, has now netted eight goals in all competitions this season.
