Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi close to signing new contract, reveals Frank Lampard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is close to signing a new contract, but insisted the deal is "not done yet".

The 18-year-old has only a year left to run on his current deal and was subject to two bids from Bayern Munich in January, both of which were rejected by Chelsea.

Lampard has reiterated his desire to keep the teenager at Stamford Bridge for years to come and sees him as an important part of his squad.

Widespread reports last week suggested that Hudson-Odoi had agreed terms on a new long-term contract worth £100,000-a-week, rising to £150,000 with bonuses.

When asked about the situation after his side beat Reading 4-3 in a pre-season friendly, Lampard said: "If he had agreed then that would mean he had signed and we’re not quite there yet, but it’s very clear that the club are working towards that.

"I think talks have moved on very well in the last week or two, hence why the headlines came out, but it’s not done yet.

"The one thing that’s clear for me is I know I want to keep him here and the club wants to keep him because he’s a player we cherish.

"He’s come through our academy, he’s the present and the future of this club so we’re doing everything we can to get there."

Hudson-Odoi, who is currently sidelined after suffering a ruptured Achilles in April, made 21 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring five goals.
