A teenager has denied stabbing a 41-year-old man to death in west London.

The defendant, who cannot be named, was 14 when he allegedly knifed Mark Fontaine up to seven times in Chelsea.

Mr Fontaine, of Walthamstow, collapsed in Cathcart Road at around 10.20pm and was pronounced dead at the scene 40 minutes later.

A postmortem confirmed he died of multiple stab wounds.

After the incident, London mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement he was "deeply saddened".

Mr Fontaine's alleged killer appeared before Judge Sarah Munro QC at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

The boy, now aged 15, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Fontaine on 30 May and having a knife in Finborough Road, Chelsea, on the same day.

He was remanded in custody until a 10-day trial which is due to start on 8 October.
