Chelsea's squad is now worth almost £1billion.
This morning the West London club published its accounts for the financial year ending June 30 2021 and among other takeaways, including a loss of £145.6million with the significant cost of the pandemic laid bare, was the clear valuation of their playing squad.
According to the accounts, the squad as of June 30 was worth £957million.
But that was before the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Internazionale in July, with reserve goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli arriving on a free transfer and Saul Niguez coming in on loan from Atletico Madrid, for a combined £109.7million.
In contrast, the club reported additional income of £103.7million as they parted company with 13 other players in the summer window - taking the current total as of December to £963million.
While this summer's figures will be included on next year's balance sheet, the accounts published this morning showed that Chelsea spent £220.3million on signings in the financial year up to June 30, headlined by the acquisition of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen, in addition to Ben Chilwell from Leicester City and Edouard Mendy from Rennes.
Timo Werner's arrival from RB Leipzig was agreed in the previous financial year.
The club made £27.9million in player sales, a sharp drop from the £142.6million earned in the 12 months previous, with Victor Moses' move to Spartak Moscow and Nathan's sale to Atletico Mineiro included.
Staff costs for the period were £333million, indicating an average player salary of £155,000 per week.
The accounts also showed the club owes more than £1billion to "related parties" and state they are “reliant on Fordstam Limited for its continued financial support”.
Fordstam is owned by Roman Abramovich and will back the club “for the foreseeable future”.
