Chelsea squad 'support' N'Golo Kante who is 'prepared to miss the rest of the season' amid coronavirus fears

Willy Caballero insists the entire Chelsea squad "supports" N'Golo Kante's decision not to return to training amid fears over his family's health during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Frenchman tested negative for the virus and attended Chelsea's first training session back on Tuesday, but was then granted compassionate leave by manager Frank Lampard with the midfielder yet to return.

While the Premier League is progressing towards a June restart, Standard Sport understands Chelsea are putting Kante under no pressure to return.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported Kante is prepared to miss the rest of the season should it resume.

Kante lost his brother to a heart attack just two years ago and ESPN say the Frenchman is worried about endangering other members of his family.

The midfielder is not alone in his decision; Troy Deeney is one of several Watford players yet to return after three employees tested positive for Covid-19.

Of Kante's decision not to return to training, Caballero told 90min: "Not only did N’Golo make that decision, but several players from other teams did the same.

"All decisions are understandable in the context of how they have experienced this pandemic.

"Many do not want to return until they feel guarantees and security. I believe that in this phase, the risk of contagion is very low and that is why we feel very confident.

"But above all, the entire team supports what Kante did."
