Chelsea squad numbers announced as Kai Havertz gets his wish and new No 10 confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2020/21 Premier League season – with big-money signings getting their wishes.

New signings Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz have all got the numbers they wore last season before switching to Stamford Bridge.

Werner donned the number 11 at RB Leipzig, Ziyech 22 at Ajax and Havertz had 29 with Bayer Leverkusen.

Defensive duo Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have been given numbers six and 21, respectively. Chilwell wore the number three at Leicester City, but that is retained by Marcos Alonso.

Christian Pulisic has taken Willian’s old number 10 shirt, following the Brazilian’s move across the capital to Arsenal, while Ross Barkley keeps number eight and Tammy Abraham is still the number nine.

Elsewhere, defender Fikayo Tomori wore 29 in his breakthrough season with Chelsea last time out, but with that being taken by Havertz, he has since been switched to number 14. Tomori is wanted by Everton, so that may yet become available.

Numbers 16, 25, 26 and 27 remain open.

Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway on Monday night when they make the trip to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
