Chelsea set to receive £13.5m windfall to help fund Kai Havertz transfer

Chelsea could be handed a much-needed financial boost in their bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz.

Havertz is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £100million, with Chelsea having already shelled out around £89million on Hakim Ziyech and the proposed purchase of Timo Werner.

But Frank Lampard could be boosted by a nice little financial windfall from the sale of midfielder Mario Pasalic to Atalanta.

The 25-year-old has been on loan to the Serie A club for the last two years and now Atalanta sporting director Giovanni Sartori has confirmed they will take up the option to buy.

Pasalic is now set to make his move permanent for €15million (£13.5million), freeing up even more cash for the Blues ahead of this summer.

Sartori told Sky Sports: "We’re going to buy Mario Pasalic on a permanent deal from Chelsea. We want to use the buy option”

And that money is likely to be put towards their next signing, with Havertz chief among the players they are interested in snapping up next.

It seems Chelsea will need to sell players to stretch their budget to cover Havertz and the departure of Pasalic certainly won't harm.

The 12-time Croatian international arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2014 but has never made a league appearance.

Atalanta is his sixth loan spell following stints with Elche, Monaco, AC Milan and Spartak Moscow.
