Chelsea set to recall former Bristol Rovers man from Birmingham City loan after interest elsewhere

Jake Clarke-Salter could be recalled from Birmingham City in January.

The Telegraph report that parent club Chelsea have received interest from other Championship clubs over his availability, and could well trigger a recall clause in order to give the defender more Championship football.

Clarke-Salter's first loan away from the Blues came in the 2016/17 season, when he joined Bristol Rovers for the campaign.

Yet he made just 12 appearances for Rovers over the course of the season, partly hampered by a fractured arm, and the form of other players.

The following year, he spent time on loan at Sunderland and Vitesse Arnhem, before joining Birmingham City this season.

Yet his game time has been limited, having been rotated in and out of the Blues' side.

Central defender Marc Roberts is currently injured, meaning Clarke-Salter has a chance to nail down a place in Birmingham's starting XI.

If he is able to gain a regular place in the side, Clarke-Salter will likely stay at St Andrews, but, if he continues to be rotated, then Chelsea may recall him and send him elsewhere in the Championship.

The highly-rated defender was once ahead of both Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori in terms of his development and how the Stamford Bridge hierarchy rated him, but, whilst Chistensen and Tomori have progressed to first-team football at Chelsea, Clarke-Salter is still having to develop on loan.
