Chelsea set to miss out on £17million transfer windfall after Inter Milan decision

Chelsea could be set to miss out on a transfer windfall in the case of Emerson Palmieri.

Emerson has struggled for game time again this season, both under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, and he is expected to leave the club this summer.

Though, that was also the case last season, and Emerson still stayed put, so there is every possibility he does not find a new club this summer.

And on that front, there is some potentially disappointing news for the Italian, with one of his suitors unlikely to make a move this summer, according to the latest reports.

Gazzetta dello Sport report Chelsea are holding out for €20million (£17.2m) this summer, and with Inter likely needing to replace Achraf Hakimi, they could look elsewhere.

The report claims there are other options, including Roma full-back Alessandro Florenzi, who is said to be available for significantly cheaper than Emerson.

Florenzi has been on loan at PSG this season, and while the French club have decided not to take up the option to buy, their option was only set at £7.7m.

Chelsea are expected to be bold in the transfer market again this summer as they look to build on their Champions League success with the signing of a top striker.

Romelu Lukaku has been linked, priced at around £100m, and Erling Haaland is another name to have been mentioned, though Chelsea may need a couple of sales to pull off that particular deal, with a price of around £150m mentioned.

If the Blues are set on Haaland, they may need the likes of Emerson to move on this summer in order to raise more money to top up Roman Abramovich's transfer kitty.

If that is the case, Chelsea will be hoping that others become interested between now and the summer transfer window.
