Chelsea set to complete first transfer since Frank Lampard's sacking as deal 'agreed'

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is set to leave the club on a loan deal in what is the first transfer since Frank Lampard's departure.

Rahman has barely had a look in since his 2015 arrival from Augsburg, spending much of his time away from the club on loan, including two spells at Schalke, as well as spells at Reims and Mallorca respectively.

The 26-year-old has made just 15 league appearances for the Blues and he is now on his way out again in a bid to get more regular minutes as business continues in the absence of departed manager Frank Lampard.

Rahman was left out of Chelsea's Premier League squad for the first half of the season and was not likely to be included in the revised squad for the second half.

In light of that, he is now set to join Greek outfit PAOK on a six-month loan deal, running until the end of the 2020/21 season, according to Sport24, who claim an agreement has been reached.

PAOK are currently fourth in the Greek Super League table and are realistically fighting for second place, currently one point off with Olympiakos head and shoulder clear at the top.

Rahman is being brought in to replace the outgoing Dimitris Giannoulis at left-back, the Greece international joining Norwich City on loan this month.

According to the report, Rahman was first offered to Olympiakos ahead of the January transfer window opening, but the Greek leaders instead went for Oleg Reabciuk. Reports claim the likes of Watford and Middlesbrough expressed interest, as well as a club from each of Spain and Germany.

Rahman initially joined Chelsea in 2015 on a £14million deal but his time at Stamford Bridge has been hampered by knee injuries, bouncing around on loan in between those injuries.

But he is now understood to be fit and ready having played for the under-23s this season, and he will look to prove himself elsewhere as he becomes the fourth loan exit of this window.

Danny Drinkwater joined Turkish club Kasimpasa earlier this month, while Fikayo Tomori joined AC Milan and Juan Castillo joined ADO Den Haag, and there could well be more exits from Chelsea before the end of the month.
