Chelsea sent Antonio Rudiger transfer warning after Manchester United links

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has insisted signing Antonio Rudiger would be a 'huge coup' for Manchester United.

The German international is out of contract with the current European champions this summer, with rumours circulating surrounding his next possible destination.

Rudiger, 28, is said to be keen on remaining with Thomas Tuchel's side beyond this summer but talks have stalled in recent weeks.

Given the defender's pedigree and rise to the top across the last 12 months, former England number one Robinson believes allowing the former Roma man to depart Stamford Bridge later this year would be a baffling decision.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “I cannot believe Chelsea are not going to give him what he wants. He’s a player they need if they want to challenge for the title and the Champions League. Chelsea would have to spend big to replace him.

“It’d be a huge coup for any Premier League side if they were able to get him.

“Regardless of his age, he is one of the best centre-halves in the world. To allow him to go to a rival in Manchester United or Spurs would be crazy. It’d be a really surprising move from Chelsea.”
