Chelsea send five-word message to Man City ace Kevin De Bruyne following Champions League final

Chelsea have openly wished Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne all the best in his recovery after he was forced off in last night's UEFA Champions League final at the Estadio do Dragao through injury.

The Belgian international, who was sporting the captain's armband, was forced on the hour mark after a heavy coming together with Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

Rudiger, who played a key role in helping the Blues secure their first Champions League crown since 2012, clattered into the City midfielder, resulting in them both requiring urgent medical attention. However, it was De Bruyne that came off worse, seeing his night come to a premature ending just 15 minutes into the second half.

Visibly upset and almost in tears as he walked off the pitch and down the tunnel, the former Chelsea midfielder would have been itching to have been the architect that had brought City back into the contest after falling behind to Kai Havertz's strike just before half time.

Issuing an update on his condition, De Bruyne, taking to Twitter earlier today, said: "Hi guys, just got back from the hospital. My diagnosis is Acute nose bone fracture and left orbital fracture.

"I feel okay now. Still disappointed about yesterday obviously but we will be back."

Chelsea have since responded to De Bruyne's tweet and wished him all the best in his recovery to full fitness.

The Blues said: "@DeBruyneKev, Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Although a message like that is nothing more than good manners and sporting, it does have a touch of class about it, although it is not out of the ordinary for clubs to do this, especially when a player has suffered an injury in a game of such significance.

As well as that, De Bruyne is a former Chelsea player, spending two years at Stamford Bridge between 2012 and 2014.

Like the rest of his team-mates, De Bruyne was visibly upset with the outcome of the final, with City having arrived in Portugal hoping to complete a famous treble. However, Chelsea proved to be too strong on the night, dominating the contest from pretty much the first whistle.
