Chelsea sale: Nick Candy reveals first plans after takeover as 'world-class' admission made

British property developer Nick Candy has confirmed his interest in buying Chelsea Football Club from Roman Abramovich.

The 49-year-old, who is known to be a Blues supporter, is the latest of a long list of people, or consortiums, to register their interest in the west London club following Roman Abramovich's statement last week, where he revealed his intention of selling.

Candy, while confirming his interest, spoke about Stamford Bridge specifically and how a club like Chelsea deserve a "world-class stadium and infrastructure".

A spokesperson for Candy said (via Sky Sports): "Mr Candy is actively exploring a number of options for a potential bid for Chelsea.

"Any bid would be made in conjunction with another party and we have serious interest from several international partners.

"Mr Candy has a huge affinity with Chelsea. He has been watching matches at Stamford Bridge since the age of four.

"The club deserves a world-class stadium and infrastructure and Mr Candy's unique expertise and background in real estate would be a hugely valuable asset to delivering his vision."

It was reported on Tuesday that Abramovich wanted two things from prospective new owners of Chelsea before making the definitive decision to sell the club, with one of them being someone, or a group, interested in the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge or indeed building a new stadium.

Candy could be the ideal man in that scenario due to his background in real estate, as he said in his statement.

However, Candy is not the only person interested in buying Chelsea, with various names being reported since Abramovich's statement last week.

Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss have teamed up and made an offer to Abramovich, although reports are claiming that it is below the £3billion asking price.

American billionaire Josh Harris is also said to be 'considering' making an offer for the club. Harris already owns a minority stake in Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

Robert "Woody" Johnson, who owns the New York Jets, has also been linked with Chelsea, although the US businessman is not commenting on the reports just yet.

Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak admitted recently that he made an offer to Abramovich below his asking price, but as per Sky Sports, 'people close to the process say those claims should be treated with caution'.
