Chelsea's transfer plans after Timo Werner deal could be bad news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney has been linked with a surprise exit from the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.

The Scotland international left-back joined Arsenal last summer but his debut season in England has been heavily disrupted by injury.

And according to journalist Duncan Castles of The Transfer Window Podcast, there is a possibility that the former Celtic star could rejoin former boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.

The Foxes sit third in the Premier League after an excellent season under Rodgers, with Ben Chilwell one of Leicester's key players.

But the England full-back has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, with Blues boss Frank Lampard understood to have made the left-back one of his main transfer targets.

If Chilwell moves to west London, it has been suggested that Leicester could replace him with Tierney.

The 22-year-old Arsenal defender was a regular at Celtic Park, winning multiple honours including the Scottish Premiership title on three occasions under Rodgers.

It has been a difficult start to life at Arsenal for Tierney, suffering injuries which have kept him out of action for large parts of this season, further stoking speculation of a move.

"Tierney has struggled through injury, and with the managerial changes at Arsenal as well," Castles said.

"He's made just 11 appearances for them so far, just five in the Premier League.

"So when you're looking at a player who has struggled in that first season like that, was bought for a substantial fee, he's at a club that has money problems.

"They do need to make changes to their squad and they need to find revenue to do that.

"So in normal circumstances you would say there's no chance of getting a player in from Arsenal who was bought for a substantial fee and was part of the most recent rebuild.

"But perhaps in these circumstances a deal would be viable for Leicester."
