Chelsea's strongest line-up if Marina Granovskaia completes deal for Ashley Cole's dream signing

Chelsea have been linked with a number of left-backs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Porto's Alex Telles is one player constantly mentioned in the gossip columns, but he looks set for a move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain if recent reports are to be believed.

That transfer wouldn't be too much of a concern for the Blues as football.london understands Leicester City's Ben Chilwell is the club's first-choice target and the England international would be Ashley Cole's dream signing at Stamford Bridge.

Alan Smith answers Chelsea questions

"I’d love to see him here," Cole told talkSPORT late last year. "I think he’s a quality player. "I’ve heard he’s a Chelsea fan so yes I’d like to see him here. "It's a big decision for the club but quality-wise for sure he is good enough.

"But that depends on if he wants to leave or if Leicester will sell him – that’s something the clubs would need to talk about. There's always going to be a question mark going to a bigger club, but he's doing really, really well in terms of how he is playing with Leicester.

"He's obviously enjoying the way Brendan plays, and the system, he's got that licence to attack.

"In terms of quality, for sure he has the quality to be here. It's a big decision for the club but quality wise for sure he is good enough.

"I definitely think they need to add to the squad in terms of strength in depth really.

"But they also have to keep going and get these younger guys some more game time, get them more experienced."

So it's clear that Cole is a big fan of Chilwell, but how would be Chelsea's best line-up under Frank Lampard if Marina Granovskaia is able to seal a deal for the left-back?

Taking all the transfer rumours into consideration, it's likely that Kepa Arrizabalaga keeps his place in the sticks.

In front of him would be a back four of Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and of course, Chilwell in his natural position on the left.

Midfield is where things get interesting as the Blues have been linked with a move for Kai Havertz and if they manage to pull of that deal then the German would operate in a number 10 position behind the main striker.

Then in attack, Jadon Sancho's potential arrival would see him slot into Lampard's first-choice front three alongside Hakim Ziyech and another potential new signing in RB Leipzig's Timo Werner.

The luxury of this dream line-up is the options Lampard would have in reserve.

Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have proven themselves at the highest level, so would give Chelsea extra depth.

Chelsea's XI: Kepa; James, Zouma, Rudiger, Chilwell; Kante, Kovacic, Havertz; Ziyech, Sancho, Werner
