Chelsea's secret weapons to help Frank Lampard sign Sergio Reguilon and solve left-back issue

Sergio Reguilon has made quite a name for himself in La Liga this season after impressing at Sevilla.

Moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium last July with limited opportunities at Real Madrid, the 23-year-old has taken his chance with both hands and caught the eye of a number of clubs in the process.

Amid reports last week that Everton had launched an £18million bid for the Spaniard, Chelsea are believed to be keen on enticing the full-back to west London as Frank Lampard looks to finally solve one of his major issues at Stamford Bridge.

Voted the best left-back in La Liga following his standout campaign in Andalusia, Reguilon showed why clubs are chasing him on Thursday evening with a goal in Sevilla's 2-0 win over Roma in the Europa League.

Collecting the ball on the left, the youngster drove inside and found the bottom corner after going beyond two players to give his side a vital lead.

His goal, which was his third of the season, certainly got Chelsea fans talking and now many believe he should be the player Lampard targets instead of splashing the cash on Leicester City's Ben Chilwell.

As well as Reguilon has done this season he may have to move on from the Santiago Bernabeu on a permanent basis if he is to take his game to the next level.

Marcelo and Ferland Mendy are Zinedine Zidane's options at left-back and game time will be extremely limited in the Spanish capital for him if he decides to stay at his parent club.

As appealing as a move to Stamford Bridge would be for him anyway, Chelsea may just have a few secret weapons who can convince the player that his future is in SW6.

The Blues and Real Madrid have been in transfer negotiations over the past three summers, with Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard moving to the Bernabeu in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The duo can play a big role in a potential deal for Lampard by speaking to their Los Blancos teammate once he returns from his loan spell and persuading him that a move to the capital is what he needs at this stage of his career.

Lampard also has someone currently at Chelsea who could also help out in Mateo Kovacic following his time with the Spanish giants.

Reguilon was quizzed about his future ahead of Sevilla's Europa League tie against Roma and he stated that he is flattered by the interest from Chelsea and other clubs.

"If my year at Sevilla had not been good, then this would not be happening," he told Marca. "These teams would not ring.

"If I am fine, the team is fine and the club is fine, everyone is happy. But I do not think about these possibilities now – I’m sorry if that sounds like a cliche.

"I’ve been saying since quarantine that until the season isn’t over I won’t be talking about my future. Until then it would be unfair on myself, my teammates and club.

"I have no complaints about anything, about the city, the club, my colleagues. I feel very loved. Who knows what will happen in the future."

With the head coach having three secret weapons to call upon, Reguilon may just find the lure of Chelsea too hard to turn down if the Blues try and bring him to the club ahead of the new season to help solve their left-back woes.
