Chelsea's secret weapon is at threat as Thomas Tuchel's clever Newcastle tactic trick revealed

Chelsea have become renowned as one of the Premier League's most prolific scorers from corners, whilst Newcastle has emerged as one of the most ineffective sides at defending them.

Thomas Tuchel will be licking his lips ahead of the Blues' clash with the Magpies but he may be inclined to explore a secondary means of attack at St James' Park despite the recent success engineered by set-piece coach Anthony Barry.

The west Londoners have scored five goals directly from corners in the league so far this season, sharing the top spot with Brentford, Arsenal and Liverpool.

But, what has made Chelsea so unique and dangerous from corners is their ability to score from unlikely positions and over-perform xG charts, making them the most effective side out of the leading quartet.

But, the Blues have made a habit of specifically delivering in-swinging corners so far this season in the Premier League with 83% of corner kicks swung into the corridor of uncertainty.

While there isn't so much of a strong correlation between whether an in-swinging or out-swinging corner works best, having a clear intent or approach certainly does.

Premier League title rivals, Liverpool, lead the charts with the Blues in goals from corners but see 81% as out-swingers, which is the most in the league.

Whereas the likes of Manchester United and Crystal Palace - both of whom are yet to score from a corner this season - haven't shown any method behind their respective approaches.

Chelsea will likely look to optimise their tremendous success from the set-piece routines but their dominant means of deliveries may prove too obvious and play into Newcastle's hands.

Having a clear vision is a sign of a well-coached side but by not having an aura of unpredictability to corner routines, it leaves Chelsea susceptible to the Magpies intercepting one of Tuchel's primary avenues of attack.

Despite this though, Newcastle has conceded three goals from corners in the league this season, facing an xG of just two which hands Tuchel a massive boost knowing that a passage of primary attack remains open.

Should Chelsea face difficulties attacking corners, the Magpies are the most susceptible side in the Premier League to conceding passes to the opposition.

This shines a light on the role Jorginho may be able to play for Chelsea; his patience in possession against low-block sides and his ability to dictate attacks.
