Chelsea's overseas players return to England as stars prepare to resume training

Chelsea's first team players who had been abroad during the lockdown have returned with training due to recommence.

The Blues north London rivals Arsenal welcomed players back last week.

And now the likes of Kepa Arizzabalaga, Willian, Pedro, Marcos Alonso, Emerson, Christian Pulisic and Andreas Christensen have all returned to England.

Chelsea had asked their players to head back to the capital by May 3.

Kepa, Pedro and Alonso had all returned to their native Spain, Pulisic headed back to America, Christensen went to Denmark and Emerson was in Italy.

Some clubs are awaiting government advice which is set to outline the latest social distancing measures before making decisions on when to return, reports Sky Sports.

Chelsea's Cobham training ground has been closed since mid-March while Stamford Bridge was opened at the start of this month.

Players who live close to the Blues' home were allowed to train on the pitch, although only individual sessions were sanctioned.

The Premier League is set to have a meeting about Project Restart once the Prime Minister has addressed the nation next Sunday.

Hopes are that the season can resume next month with nine league games remaining for the majority of teams.

Chelsea currently occupy the final Champions League spot with a three point lead over Manchester United in fifth.

The Blues have four home games left with five on the road, although it is likely that any resumption will be at neutral grounds.

Frank Lampard's side have an FA Cup quarter-final at against Leicester to factor in as well as a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in Germany.

The Blues were humbled 3-0 in west London by the German champions in the first-leg of their last 16 tie shortly before the football season was put on hold.
