Chelsea's left-back plan for the summer transfer window amid Ben Chilwell and Alex Telles links

Chelsea have already sealed one big transfer ahead of the summer window with the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

The Morocco international's £33.4m move will officially go through on July 1, 2020 and there's every chance that he's one of several new faces at Stamford Bridge for the 2020/21 season.

And judging by Frank Lampard's use of his left-backs this season, all signs are pointing towards that being a position the Blues head coach looks to bolster in the coming months.

Amid talk of signing a new left-back this summer, our Chelsea writer Oliver Harbord gave an update on the club's transfer plans during a Q&A with fans last Thursday .

"On the radar. Alex Telles is another player who will be looked at over the summer as a potential left-back option," he said when asked if the Porto ace is Lampard's first choice for the left-back spot.

"Emerson has been rarely used, while Marcos Alonso has certainly got himself back into the first team thinking.

"Meanwhile, youngster Ian Maatsen has just signed a new four-year deal, but the likelihood is that he is going to be loaned out to get more experience and is a more long-term prospect.

"But for the Blues in the short term, Cesar Azpilicueta is not the main solution for the left-back position.

"However, Ben Chilwell is also on the radar for the summer, along with Telles."

Another player being linked with a move to west London in the summer is Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and the Blues will do what they can to win the race for the teenager's signature ahead of Manchester United.

"A hotly contested race. There is no doubt that this summer Jadon Sancho is going to be one of the hottest properties in the transfer market," Harbord added. "The England international has been superb for Borussia Dortmund this season. He has already racked up 14 Bundesliga goals and another 15 assists, with two goals and two assists in the Champions League.

"Sancho is also still only 19 years of age and so his best football is still ahead of him. In every way he could be just the winger that Frank Lampard is looking for.

"However, Manchester United are going to be big contenders for the youngster and it is going to drive up the cost of him.

"There will be a couple of issues. Chelsea need to qualify for the Champions League, while they need to be willing to go big with the cash as well.

"You can’t guarantee which club Sancho will go to, but Chelsea will give it a go."
