Chelsea's Kai Havertz breakthrough to set Manchester United back in transfer battle

German football expert Christian Falk has insisted Chelsea are ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Kai Havertz.

The Blues are said to be interested in the Bayer Leverkusen attacker but face competition from Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich for his signature.

Frank Lampard's side have already sewn up a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax whilst a deal for Timo Werner from RB Leipzig is close.

Ben Chilwell is also on Chelsea's summer shopping list and a move for Havertz could already materialise.

However, despite Manchester United trying to attract Havertz with their new £300million project to build a new squad, which has also been used to intrigue Jadon Sancho, Falk insists Havertz is still closer to a move to Chelsea.

"I have heard from my sources that United’s management is ready to invest 300 million euros to build a new team," Falk told UtdReport.

"Manchester United is an option for Kai Havertz, because his management have been told about the big plans of the new team.

"But, Chelsea are more concrete in the talks at the moment. Perhaps Chelsea are again faster than United, like in the case of Timo Werner."
