Chelsea's Jorginho dismisses calls for red card vs Arsenal after Guendouzi challenge

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has refuted suggestions he should have been sent off against Arsenal after a fiery London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

The Italian made a crucial impact from the bench after being introduced after 37 minutes with the Blues a goal down, adding some much-needed stability for the visitors before scoring the equaliser late on.

But there were claims the 28-year-old should have been shown a red card in the second half after appearing to tug the shirt of Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi having already been booked.

That moment was the turning point in the game as Jorginho prodded home the leveller eight minutes from time before Tammy Abraham's 87th-minute strike completed a remarkable turnaround.

But the Blues midfielder insisted contact between the two was "normal" and supported referee Craig Pawson's decision not to brandish a second yellow card.

"The contact is normal in football and that's it. No more I think," he told Sky Sports.

"[In the] first 30 minutes we were too soft, we had to push them on. I tried to change the game."

Abraham's 12th goal of the season secured a smash-and-grab for the Blues after spending the first half on the back-foot but the 22-year-old singled out Jorginho for his cameo.

"I give credit to the boys and to Jorginho," he said.

"They dominated the ball in midfield in the first half but this man [Jorginho] came on and it was a totally different ball game. He lifted us as a team and the second half was a complete performance."
