Chelsea's incredible starting XI under Thomas Tuchel if transfer mistakes had never happened

It has not taken long for Thomas Tuchel to turn Chelsea into a force to be reckoned with.

Replacing Frank Lampard in January, the German transformed the club into European Champions within four months, securing his place in Chelsea legend in rapid time.

However, despite the Blues strong squad, it is hard to think of what could have been had a few key transfer mistakes not been made.

We take a look at an incredible starting XI Tuchel could have had at his disposal had three clangers not been dropped.

Goalkeeper

Edouard Mendy retains his spot here.

Thibaut Courtois was under consideration but it is hard to ignore the man who was so integral to Chelsea's second Champions League triumph.

Defence

We have maintained Tuchel's preferred wing-back system here too. It has been a long time since Chelsea have boasted such a consistent unit, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger start in the three centre-back roles while Reece James and Ben Chilwell are selected for the right and left wing-back roles respectively.

Commiserations to Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah. Victims of an embarrassment of riches at Stamford Bridge today - and not bad back-ups by any means.

Midfield

If only Chelsea had not decided to sell Kevin de Bruyne to Wolfsburg.

The Belgian has asserted himself as one of the best midfielders in the world with Manchester City and the thought of him whipping in beautiful crosses and sliding inch-perfect passes to Romelu Lukaku is mouth-watering. The 30-year-old made just nine appearances for the Blues.

It is hard to imagine the industry and brilliance of N'Golo Kante not matching De Bruyne's genius perfectly in the middle of the park.

Attack

It is no disrespect to Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner that they all miss out to two of the best attackers the Premier League has ever seen.

Mo Salah's genius was once again there for all to see on Sunday as he tore a stubborn Manchester City defence to shreds on his own, scoring a 134th goal for Liverpool in the process. Who knows the success that could have been possible had they not sold the winger to Roma?

Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid was inevitable for a while, but he has never been better than when he is playing in a blue shirt.

Romelu Lukaku would no doubt thoroughly appreciate the excellent service too, although the arguments that would ensue over who takes penalties could be an issue.
