Chelsea's Graham Potter will forever be grateful to West Ham's David Moyes after classy gesture

Chelsea manager Graham Potter will forever remain grateful to West Ham United manager David Moyes following a classy gesture he made at the start of 2020.

Saturday sees West Ham host Chelsea at the London Stadium, a game which will see Potter go to the ground for the second time this term, having guided Brighton and Hove Albion to a 2-0 victory there in August, shortly before leaving the Amex Stadium.

The two managers have a respectful history with one another, helped by a classy gesture made by Moyes around three years ago.

In January 2020, Potter's father passed away shortly before the two sides met the following month in the Premier League.

Recalling the events around that time, Potter revealed in May 2021 that ahead of that game, Moyes went out of his way to see Potter following his father’s passing, with the now Chelsea manager revealing that he has a lot of admiration for the Hammers’ gaffer.

"I will always remember he came to see me when my father passed away before we played them last year - it was a nice touch," said Potter, as published by SussexLive in May 2021 ."He did not have to do that but it just shows the type of person he is. I have huge respect and admiration for him."

Moyes also has a lot of respect for Potter, not only shown by his gesture but also with comments made about the Blues’ manager. Ahead of West Ham’s home defeat to Brighton, Moyes spoke highly of him during his time with the Seagulls.

“They’ve got a manager who is doing very well,” said Moyes at the start of this season.

Moyes and Potter have faced each other as managers six times, with four ending in draws and the other two ending in victories for Potter’s team.
