Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu could return from RB Leipzig early, as Bristol City attempt late loan deal

Bristol City are exploring the possibility of striking a late loan deal for Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu.

The 19-year-old, who can operate in midfield or defence, is currently on loan at German side RB Leipzig but he has struggled for action.

Ampadu has made just five appearances for them this season and it has alerted other clubs to his signature.

Bristol are keen to bring him to the Championship, as are other sides, but a deal could be difficult to strike given that Leipzig made their stance clear in November.

“A premature return is not an option,” RB Leipzig’s chairman Oliver Mintzlaff told Bild.

“[RB Leipzig head coach] Julian Nagelsmann will continue to develop Ethan in training so that he will certainly get his time in this long season.”

Ampadu’s game time has not improved since then so Bristol will hope Leipzig are open to letting him return to Chelsea and go back on loan to another club.
