Chelsea's Champions League prize money explained as it more than doubles income from 2012 win

Beating Manchester City in the Champions League final tomorrow night will be worth £95.75m in prize money to Chelsea before factoring in broadcast income, which is more than double the amount of money they got from their 2012 win against Bayern Munich including TV money.

The Blues have already made €106.8m (£92.3m) from this season’s Champions League run but will get an additional €4m (£3.45m) for winning in Porto. That is slightly more than what City could earn because the West London club has a stronger historical coefficient.

Figures from UEFA showed that they earned £48.3m including £25.8m from broadcast income, which is dwarfed by their takings from this season.

The Champions League market pool (broadcast revenue) for 2020/21 was worth €292m (£250m) and they will be entitled to 10% of the Premier League’s portion having finished fourth in the table - and that will be added on top of the €110.8m should they beat Pep Guardiola’s side.

Meanwhile, the squad is set to share a £10m bonus if they become kings of Europe for the second time in the club’s history. The players will still earn £5m if they lose to Pep Guardiola’s side as part of a collective agreement made at the beginning of the season.

Unused and injured squad members will receive a portion of the bonus, too, meaning the likes of Tino Anjorin and Tammy Abraham will earn some extra money despite having only appeared in the group stages. Twenty four players have been used by the Blues throughout the European campaign.
