Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta delivers his verdict on Giovani Lo Celso VAR incident against Spurs

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is adamant that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso should have been sent-off during the second half of the Blues' 2-1 win over Spurs.

With Chelsea two goals to the good thanks to strikes from Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso, the former Real Betis midfielder tangled with the Blues' captain, treading on his shin as the defender slid in.

VAR ruled that the decision was not worthy of a sending-off, leaving Azpilicueta, his Chelsea teammates, Frank Lampard and the home crowd absolutely furious.

But since the incident, the PGMOL have revealed that a human mistake was made in the decision against sending off the Argentine.

Azpilicueta, who had a large bag of ice strapped to his right shin, offered his verdict on the incident after the game.

"I am not a player that likes to be on the floor because I am a defender, I am tough and I make fouls," he told BT Sport.

"But it was not my fault as it was a clear stamp on my shin and I felt it straight away.

"I was surprised that it was not a red card, but even more surprised it was not even a yellow card.

"Everyone can make mistakes, but when you have a lot of replays I think it could be easier."
